That’s a very tricky place, to be able to surrender to your game which you have certain mastery in, in order to go for more. But I’m afraid that everybody is driven to go for more until they can, in the depths of their inner being, say, “This is enough.” And they can only say that when it is. So the press of evolution on man’s consciousness is inevitable. There’s nothing he can do about it. He doesn’t really have much choice in the matter. He’s just got to wake up at the rate he’s got to wake up.
Ram Dass [Dr. Richard Alpert] was talking in 1970 about how many of us live primarily from the first 3 chakras - the bases of survival, procreation and power. This is of course still true today, as it is for many people around the world.
It's at once a reason to mourn - that so many people in the world have to struggle for basic survival needs - and for many of us a reminder to be thankful for having those needs met, on a pretty regular basis. We are privileged indeed to be able to experience 'higher' level chakras like gratitude, forgiveness and compassion.
Then too this a reason for admiration for those who, struggling at the first three levels - still find energy to experience compassion, forgiveness and love. Like Nelson Mandela and Gandhi, those are people to admire indeed.
